My dreams. Or, what?

I have this anxious thing going on, ever since my daughter was born I have this huge fear of home invasion, like white noise at the base of my head. So I'm used to going to sleep in slow increments, relaxing a little at a time until I'm all the way asleep. Sometimes it's easy, like drifting down on a feather.

Last night was one of those times.

It's almost like something is whispering in my ear, of bad things. I closed my eyes at 12:43 am, and opened them at 1:18 am because my son woke up hungry. In that roughly forty minutes of pseudo sleep, I first dreamt that I kept hearing a noise coming from a small window in the other room (which doesn't exist in my house) with a billowy, gauzy, white curtain. The window has bars, or a steel grate. I enter the door and turn to my right and look up. I see arms reaching in through the grate, a woman peering in who asks me if Sue is home. Then she's inside and it's clear she doesn't care if Sue is home, she's there for something else.

I manage end that dream and it's like my mind tried again. Now I'm sitting on my couch. My front door is open to my left and it's the middle of the night. Everyone is asleep. I'm doing something like reading or possibly eating a sandwich and I keep hearing scratching noises beyond the open front door. I don't think anything of it, except that it's persistent and I have a detached ominous feeling. I keep looking in that direction, wondering, and going back to my task.

Finally I get up and walk up to the open door.

Outside are three men, hovering. I think they're zombies. I know they want in.

That's when I woke up.

After Connor had his bottle, I dreamt, the rest of the night, of Far and Away - you know, that movie with Tom Cruise and Wife #2, Nicole Kidman? My mind, apparently in an effort to quell nightmares, tried to redo the plot. It came out like the Winchester Mystery House, lopsided and upside down and mixed up. But it kept me out of zombie land until I woke up at six am.

This would probably be a good day to work on my next Persephone installment.
