OMG, YES!

My baby's back!

::clings to laptop::

you must never do this to me again, precious.

DHL delivered her back to me about an hour ago, after seven of the longest days I've ever had since '03's 24 hours of labor pain (which was like fourteen days in hell, but that's something that'll remain surpressed if I ever want to have another baby ever again). Last Thursday, while I was at work, my laptop fell off the couch and the monitor cracked. After my head spun around a few hundred times at the reality of being cut off from my music, my writing, my FANDOM, it was decided to send it back to Dell for a new monitor. I was told it would be 10 days on the outside before I got 'er back. Thank God, it was only mostly 7.

ONLY 7. Ha.

But I went out and bought two books to try and fill the void. Both vampire novels. That was about the only thing they had in common. The first I won't name because I don't want to spoil anyone's enjoyment, but suffice it to say my eyeballs ached from the rolling two chapters in. By the time I got to the part where the main chick imagines having doggy style sex with her Sire, and the Sire responds (cuz he can read her mind) that's she got a perverse imagination, I had to stop. Cuz really, doggy style sex as PERVERSE and IMAGINATIVE? Whatever.

The second one was much, much more enjoyable. The title was Lover Awakened. I think. I never actually noted the title. Just that it was third in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and written by J.R. Ward. After I got past the original spelling of some fairly common words, I really enjoyed the heck out of it. It hit some kinks, and had some very good slash potential. The vampires weren't cliched - they were fucked up (self-flagellation and drug use to name two) and foul mouthed without being operatic. The author had interesting word substitutions (female for woman) and word arrangements. I'm only sorry I read the third first, because now the first two won't be surprises.

So boys and girls, there maybe an upside to not having fandom at your disposal 24/7. But I never want to find out again.

I have a pretty horrendous head cold so I stayed home today and caught The Pack and The Thin Dead Line this morning. The Pack was as good as the first time I saw it, back in...hmm, '97? The use of music was the awesome and Xander was hot AFTER getting possessed. Which, I think, is a fairly popular opinion and says so much about what kinks we all share. Dark, dangerous. Oh yeah, Buffy, you are not alone there. But I was retroactively disappointed that Xander doesn't own up to his possessed behavior, and it leads me to think that maybe the spirit only brought out what Xander buries underneath the goof-ball exterior. Which, wow, is a scary thought and maybe it's better that he didn't go through with the wedding, even though I was gutted on Anya's behalf.

The Thin Dead Line was good. Notable for Wesly getting shot and Cordelia telling Angel off in the hospital because Starlet was right, he's awful and wonderful as a boyfriend at the same time. Shutting them out, giving away Cordelia's clothes as if he were wiping her importance from his life, yet being all voyeur and stalker-like on the rooftop across from their new office, and going to the hospital, but standing a careful distance away. The look on his face when Cordy's laying into him is very scary, very ugly.

On the shipper side of things, his reaction to Anne's question on whether the clothes belonged to his girlfriend ("God, no.") is exactly Buffy's reaction when Glory calls Spike her boyfriend ("He's NOT my boyfriend"). Uh-huh. A season later we have rug burns for Buffy and Angel's got his hands all over Cordelia (running from James in Hearthrob and their training in...uh, the ep where Fred said they had Kyrumption?).

I could go on, but I need to eat at some point. Thanks for indulging me.
