For Debbie
Just a little something I cobbled together. Unbetaed, and it probably shows.
Cordy and Angel, after the Shansu.
~~
He wakes first.
The sun is a distant light beyond the gauzy curtains and the room hangs onto the dark with a reluctance that echos in his body.
He likes the night now, the way her body needs to sleep curled against his.
He shifts his head on the pillow.
The outline of her body is soft in the half dark, wrinkled sheets pulled almost all the way up to her head. Her hair is a spill of dark silk and shadows, tangled with the fragrance of old shampoo and his restless fingers.
He reaches up now and smoothes a portion out, but the damage was done hourse before, with his hands and lips. She laughed when he wound it around his wrist, and tugged gently for her attention.
His heart leaps with the memory of her smile as she slid through the sheets like silent music, his own symphony of curves and arches.
She laid in the spent after, listening to his new heartbeat. It soothed her like a lullabye.
She fell into dreams too far for him to follow, but he was happy to wait, knowing she'd come back.
Now he curves into the hollows of her body, and presses his lips close to the shell of her ear.
"Come back to me," he whispers.
She does, opening her eyes, and reaches for his welcoming kiss.
Outside the sun rises higher.
