samsom: (cordelia hiding in the shadows)

Pondering on a rainy day

Know what I don't get?

Those "no apologies" icons.

I mean, I get the ones for Buffy or Spike or Xander - these characters tend to be controversial in their own way. So when I see "Buffy fan. No Apologies." or "Spike fan. No apologies." I get it. People tend to either hate or love or love them.

But what I don't get are the "Faith fan. No Apologies." icons. When did anyone ever have to apologize for loving Faith? And are there fans out there that hate her? I don't hang out at every Buffyverse comm, but I think I would have run across it at some point over the last....dear God, eight years?

Or "Angel-loving Spuffy." I've seen those too. I didn't know being a Spuffy meant you hated Angel, so that you needed a declaration of the opposite if you didn't.

Just something that's always puzzled me.

And it makes me wonder if I need a "Cordelia fan. No Apologies." icon as well. Then again that would be like acknowledging that some people hate Cordy, and those people are pretty much dead to me anyway, so I guess I don't need it after all.

Hmm. I haven't seen these icons of which you speak. I think I may be out of the loop.

Re Faith, I think there would definitely be people who hate Faith. I'm pretty sure at the time of the original airings, Faith was hated by nearly all who were Buffy lovers. She was a bad influence on Buffy, she stole Xander's affection from Buffy, she tried to turn Angel into Aus and even kissed him (OMG!), and, of course, she turned bad and tried to kill all the Scoobs. Now, later, after her AtS redemption, she became less hated, but some never get over those initial feelings.

There are also, according to that F!S post about Angel vs. Spike, many fans who pit Angel against Spike and if you love one you apparently can't love the other. This one isn't as clear to me why that is but I'm guessing it's because of the one that all must love, Buffy.

I have no Spike-by-himself icon. *sobs*

You're not out of the loop. I see them every now and again but it's not like they're saturating fandom. They're not even new, since I've been seeing them for a few years now.

I'm sure there are people who hate Faith *looks down at MAB's comment* but what I mean is, she's not a polarizing figure. One that, if you bring up her actions or whatever, you might spark a heated debate (the way Spike might if someone brought up the AR, or Xander if someone brought up The Lie or the way he sees Buffy). I never disliked her, not really, though I frowned severely when she went after Angel. Funny thing is, I was relieved that it was a plan to bring Angelus out, and that she did it because of her feelings for Buffy and not any genuine desire for Angel himself.

Clearly the answer to Spike vs. Angel is to love them both. Pfft. They weren't even on the same show for a majority of the time, and they are so different in so many ways, I just think it's stupid to compare them - just because they both have a soul.

*raises hand* I'm a Faith-hater, but I don't think the word "hate" is strong enough.

I learn something new every time I post. Huh. Did you hate her from the get-go or was it an incident/remark that set you off?

I'm pretty neutral about her myself. I was good with her arc on Buffy, and okay with her reappearance on AtS (but only because it meant I wouldn't be seeing Buffy during Cordy's deconstruction - that would have been the cherry on that shitpile).

LOL, I adore Faith but not everyone does. I guess there are times when the grunting and overuse of leather (not to mention punching Cordy in the face and torturing Wesley) can get on people's nerves. Still, mostly I love her.

You know what would have made my day? A PROPER Faith/Cordelia scene. They would have been awesome.

And people hate Cordelia? :scratches head: I don't understand, what are these strange people, pods or something? :p

Also, I have to add - the Angel vs. Spike thing? Don't get it. I think it only happens if you're a die-hard B/A fan, or maybe a Spuffy fan but as a C/A fan and a C/S friendship fan, I love Spike.

To me, Spike is a male Cordelia. Not as awesome but yes, a male Cordy. He was to Buffy what Cordy was to Angel - a bright presence in a normally broody character's life...both added a glow to the black of their respective mopers.

And Spike made me love Spuffy. God knows, it wasn't Buffy who did so...

Right, Spike provided a much needed levity to Buffy's gloom. I still think you can love them both, and comparing them is sort of useless in the end.

Or something. :P

I'd love to have seen a good Cordy/Faith scene. But who gets to be evil and who gets to be sort of good?

It's sick of me to say but I really loved the chemistry between Wes and Faith during the torture scene. *cringes*

[identity profile] gabs186.livejournal.com 2009-03-04 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, well our fandom has a lot of W/F fans...I've never been one of them, I'm afraid. I love Wes and I love Faith but together? Nope. Could be because deep down, despite disliking Fred, I'm a Wes/Fred shipper, or could be because I don't Faith is good enough for my Wesley but I just never saw it.

Now Faith/Gunn I could see.

I think a part of why I loved Faith so much was BECAUSE she was the anti-Buffy. It was just so interesting...and she got under B's skin, which was amusing to watch. Then again I'm conflicted because I can totally imagine and adopt Cordy reaction - pinched nose, grimacing lips and total disapproval of all that leather. As for the chap she's in love with? Well, he looks a whole lot different in leather... :p It's like denim! You don't wear a denim jacket with denim jeans, it just looks tacky. Same goes for leather.

My GOD, I talk a lot...
