No such thing as a muse. Right.

samsomI have held a secret the last few years for fear of offending anyone. But I'm here to spill it and take my lumps.
There are many 'writery' things that have bugged me over the years but one of the biggest is the idea that writers and artists have a muse that inspires them.
Talking about this muse like it's real, describing them as some Sharon Stone lookalike that comes and goes out of one's life like a bad boyfriend has me rolling my eyes. Muses aren't real, muses aren't any kind of separate entity that live and breathe independently.
And then I tried for two months to write one simple fic, and deleted and deleted and deleted it as I wondered where the damned mojo went. It was ridiculous because I knew the premise, could picture various scenes in my head. But it wouldn't write.
Then last night I chucked the one page I managed to write, opened a new Doc and just typed.
An entire fic fell out. Completely not the one I was thinking about the last two months. 2000 words. And they made sense.
Well, to me anyway.
So I may be rethinking the whole 'muse' thing now. Because I have no idea where it came from. All I know is that it didn't come from me. *cues X-Files theme*
