samsom: (snapping on Friday)
Finally this meme ends.

I'm sure it's confirmed for everyone out there that I'm just not that...interesting...when it comes to the whys and whatnot of my writing, right? :P

Day freakin' 30 )

But first, I want you all to know how much of an idiot I am with LJ. There are some kind people out there that have given me v-gifts, one as recent as today, that have brightened my User Info page immeasurably. But because I have no 'know-how' related to navigating these things, I cannot FIND the stupid sunflowers to send out to the people I want to send them to.

Grrr.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] anr. It was most welcome today. :) And thank you to my MGs who've sent me v-gifts in the past. Ya'll know who you are. :)

anyway, onward )

Damn, this meme is harder than I thought to keep up with.

17 – Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?

They’re easier than summaries but I’m pretty hit and miss with Titles too. Sometimes I already have it in mind when I’m writing, like You Promised, and sometimes, I wait until I’m finished with something and then I think about what the fic is about and the title comes from that. The Persephone series is probably the only title - Underneath the Drowning Water - that I thought long and hard about what I wanted to evoke when I was coming up with it. I wanted to bring to mind both Ophelia and Persephone of Greek Myth, and I’m particularly proud of it, especially In Her Hand, Six Seeds of the Pomegranate. A lot of my fic, though, have horrible titles and I readily admit I don’t try hard enough to come up with them. It’s usually the last thing I do before I get ready to post and by then, I’m so wrung out from writing the fic, I’m too tired to come up with clever or meaningful titles to go along with it. Er, sorry?

If I wrote a series of fic strung together in a larger narrative, like Persephone , I’d title each individual fic. If I were writing multi-chaptered fic, I wouldn’t title each chapter. No way. I’d be boring old Chapter One, Chapter Two. Or if I were being fancy, I’d do Chapter I, Chapter II….

Well, I got derailed by the LJ attack, and then by laziness, but it's back. I don't want to leave this unfinished, even if I'm the only one finding it interesting, LOL.

And away I go.

Okay, maybe I ought to add a disclaimer in here. I am in no way a self-reflective writer. I write mostly by instinct, and I depend on [livejournal.com profile] damnskippytoo to mold the results into a cohesive whole (something I will always be grateful to her for). So in answering questions about writing, I tend to ramble and have half expressed thoughts that go nowhere. Don't expect anything more than that, you'll probably be disappointed. /disclaimer
