Angel and Cordelia’s first and last kiss in YW. Nothing reduces me to a quivering mass more than that one minute where the whole world disappeared and the only thing real was his arms around her and her arms around him, and a passionate kiss that had to say everything that needed to be said between them, to each other.
I hear tell that since Angel and Cordelia never said the words “I love you” to each other, they didn’t.
Love each other.
LIKE THAT.
Other than snarking about all the other shows out there where the leads are invested in NOT saying but showing *coughBonescough*, I always think of this scene.
Sometimes you don’t need words. Sometimes words are superfluous in the presence of such overwhelming emotion.
What made it so horribly sad – as opposed to tragic - is that the circumstances of the outside world were more important than the love between these two. Something horrible happened and it separated them, and before anyone could catch a breath, Cordelia was gone. And despite her desire to remain with Angel, and his absolute need to have her with him, the universe didn’t care, didn’t give two shits about those two small souls in the vast primordial mess of the world. So the only thing left was a kiss. One kiss to express all they were to each other. One kiss to say I love you.
And half of the best thing about that scene was that the kiss wasn’t just between Cordy and Angel, it was between Charisma and David, a goodbye between the four of them.
Yeah, that scene always makes me cry. Not just because it’s Cordelia’s last scene and it’s sad, but because it’s so full of love, it takes my breath away. Just takes it away. I always feel like I’m intruding on a private moment between two lovers, and that’s all due to the amazing direction, dialogue, and most of all, acting.
It’s the perfect love scene.
So of course it makes me cry.
I did say my answers would be damned predictable, yes? :D
