First off, the icon has nothing to do with our talk, but I'm crushing on him right now, so I like to use it.
I'm so very flattered that you remembered my posts enough to respond. I'd love to talk X/A and I've lurked at your board for a few months now, off and on. I also found some excellent X/A fic, including Equal to the Gods. I loved it, read it all in one night. No one came off looking better or worse than anyone else, and you treated Xena's relationship with Gabby just as importantly as the one with Ares, which I appreciated.
I'm a rare bird, I believed in both ships. I thought what fulfilled Xena in her relationship with Gab was different than the needs that Ares filled. In The God Who Loved Her, you mentioned Gabrielle's light as opposed to Ares dark, and I thought that was the best description ever as to why these two were so significant to Xena in different but important ways. I never had a problem believing that Xena loved them both. But since I personally felt the show spent more time on X/G, X/A became my favorite thing to root for, especially during the 5th and 6th seasons. I loved that she could always sense him, that even when he was doing his worse, she was still drawn to him, and that she could never kill him.
But I've been removed from the Xenaverse since FIN. That last episode scarred me but good. Since the episode before Callisto, when Xena was poisoned by that dart that slowly paralyzed her and she had to fight off those men while succumbing to the effects of the drug and the way Salmoneus found her afterwards, I knew it was foreshadowing the way she'd die. Warriors like Xena don't die of old age, they die as warriors, so I sort of had prepared myself for that inevitability but I wasn't prepared for the execution, literally, and the reasoning. I only ever wrote two ficlets in the Xenaverse and couldn't write anymore after. It was too sad.
So let's talk! And I'll register at the board tomorrow:)
