I just saw a preview for 300, about the Battle of Thermapolye!
Squee!
It opens March 9th, and I am so there. Even if I have to go alone, because I can't imagine anyone in my life wanting to sit through a movie about an ancient old Greek battle for freedom. Oh well, it's not for everyone.
ohmygod, I'm so excited! I hope it's based on Stephen Pressfield's novel, Gates of Fire. I have never been into ancient military battles, but that book was exceptionally well written and the narrative just draws you into their world.
ohmygod.
ETA: So, I just googled it. Not based on Pressfield's novel - damn - but on a Frank Miller graphic novel. Explains the oddities I saw when I watched the theatrical trailer. Not sure hell beasts were a part of ancient Greece, except in myth. But, it's about the Spartans at Thermapolye, Gerard Butler is playing King Leonidas, and it's got the best quote from Gates of Fire, so I forebear.
