So excited!
Aug. 22nd, 2007 10:50 pmWhen I was about eleven and first discovering books and reading, my fifth grade classroom exposed me to my first selection of books. What If They Knew? (about a girl with epilepsy), The Girl with the Silver Eyes and a series of books about a little girl named Anatasia Krupnik.
But the one that stuck in my mind was a beautifully illustrated picture book, done in shades of silver, grey, blacks and whites, about a little girl that flies all around the world with a magical flute clutched in her hand. The moon figured prominantly, taking her over the ocean and through strange lands. I couldn't remember the title or author, on account of being a kid, but I always remembered the magic I felt in those pages, how mysterious and hushed after midnight was. The closest I ever got to that same feeling was with Goodnight Moon. But I wanted that other book, so much that I'd dream about having it again sometimes.
Well, thanks to the magic of Google and a few choice words - girl + moonbeam + flute + book, I have finally found it! It's called Moonflute, written by Audrey Wood and illustrated by Bob Wood.

Tomorrow, I shall be ordering this book through either Barnes and Noble or Borders, and hopefully I'll be able to pick it up this weekend. I hope so. I can't wait to look at those illustrations and read the words again.
I rec it to adults. It's beautifully illustrated, like oil paintings, and it brings to life that hushed quality you feel when it's just you and the moon outside, shining down.
