Jebus. I've missed the first half hour of Dexter's season premiere twice so it was hard to make sense of Deb's inability to off the murdering gang member in the last twenty minutes. So I was just watching it on the third attempt and suddenly it makes sense, even if I might be wrong about it.
Last season his adopted sister was tied to a table, ready to be carved like a turkey by the Ice Truck Killer and Dexter had to kill his brother to save her. So in this opening episode, Dex can't kill because the victims became human to him - he's putting them in his sister's place on the table.
Also, I saw Julie Benz's boobies.
*is twelve*
I love Dex's inner narration, or monologue. I love killers with senses of humor - it's how I fell for Spike originally - and Dex, the self-aware motherfucker, is *funny* about his need to kill, or his inability to perform.
The only thing I find hard to swallow, other than the level of Dex's self-awareness of what he is, is his restraint in only killing bad people. But I guess that's part of his self-awareness I find hard to believe. I guess. Still working out the kinks of this show.
The ending scene was great - Dex *finally* feels alive (signaled by his heart rate increasing), because of the real possibility of being caught. Awesome.
