I missed three or four episodes, but I managed to watch the finale last night.

Twice.

Gaw, Doakes.

I was really hoping he would make it. I wasn't sure if it was going to be Dexter or not that finally did him in, and can I say how disappointed I am that it was that slag, Lilah? I liked Doakes. After a while, his constant stream of mothafuckas was endearing and very cute. And his dislike and distrust of Dexter was based on him being a good cop and a good man with incredibly good instincts about people. I was so hoping he'd back off Dexter, but I knew he wouldn't after the head butt. I just wished it had been Dexter and not Lilah. Doakes deserved better than that pyscho.

Oh, and can I say how terrifically happy I was that Dexter finally killed that pyro? In fact, though it disturbs both Debs and me to say it, I really wish he'd stabbed her a few more times. She got off pretty scott free considering the ugly death she delivered to Doakes.

I felt horrible for Maria, the one who held out hope for Doakes, who still believed in his innocence when the evidence was so overwhelmingly against him. She's too conniving for my tastes, but one thing that came through loud and clear, she and Doakes cared for each other. I liked how they saw through each other's bullshit and called each other on it.

My favorite parts were when Dexter, thinking he was off the hook as the Butcher, happily skips through his morning, unencumbered by thoughts of capture, and steps off the elevator at work, offering smiles and donuts, only to be hit in the face with everyone around him walking around like someone just died. Because, oh yeah, someone did. Whoops.

Symbolically, Dexter rising from the flames of his self doubt and breaking through the wall of not knowing what he should be was a tad overdone but it got the point across. I hope this doesn't mean we won't see more Harry flashbacks, because there are lots more ways that Harry can posthumously disappoint Dexter.

I also liked how he found Lilah in Paris. I loved the intimacy - the lighting, the way he carried her - when he stuck her with the needle and laid her out on the couch. And the way he said "you said you wanted to be close to me, Lilah. Well, this is the best I've got to give." Or something like that. Right before he stabbed her. And that's what it was, the ultimate act of intimacy that Dexter is capable of.

I'm still very conflicted about adoring a show about a serial killer, and how I'm beginning to adore the serial killer, but Dexter feeds that need for dark in me, the way Angel did - in the moments when they allowed him to be that dark. It makes me wonder what Angel The Series would have been like, if it had been on Showtime or HBO. If only....

Spoilers for the finale in the cut above, so be warned.

Doods, Princess Bride! It's on. "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Classics like that never go out of style. "As you wish." *sigh*

Today we had our Christmas to-do at work, and in storing my present from this publically traded, number one company in the industry (millions made every year), I ran across last year's gift. I guess I forgot to take it home. Last year was a picture frame. This year, a chips and dip bowl.

I am thinking of regifting.

Know what sounds incredibly good right now? A freshly made burger and fries, with grilled onions, crisp lettuce leaves, mayo, ketchup, - NO CHEESE - and um, a shake.

Know what I'm going to have?

Chocolate milk (for the bebe) and a bowl of hot soup.

*sigh*
