Just watching the last five episodes of last season's Dexter, and I have a question for anyone who might know.

Is Harry still functioning as Dexter's conscience or is he now the voice and image of Dexter's Dark Passenger?

I can't make up my mind because I've seen indications of both.

Also, I am so impressed with the ethnic diversity on this show.

I still miss Doakes.

Debbie and her potty mouth are growing on me, and Maria is really turning out to be a well rounded character - good and bad points.

Can't wait for next season.

I don't know for sure. I've always thought Harry was a bit of both but more of Dexter's conscience. It seems like it goes back and forth.

Doakes was so awesome. I miss him, too :\

Debbie is FINALLY growing on you? LOL Sadly, that mouth of hers reminds me of myself. I've gotten better, though *grins*

I can't wait for next season, either. Dexter's going to be a daddy. That will definitely open some interesting doors. I'm glad they didn't go down a dangerous path with Rita's pregnancy.

One of the many things that keep this show so interesting is that I truly cannot gauge Dexter or how his mind works. I like the idea of Harry being Dexter's conscience but like Debbie said below, he may not be that anymore.

I suspect that Dexter has his own skewed conscience, he just isn't aware of it. Yet.

And I am so very curious how this new baby affects Dexter. If he will have a genuine feeling or if he will have to fake it like everything else.

I always just thought of Harry inside Dexter's head as a bit of both. A little of what Dexter would think his Dad would say and some of the Dark Passenger leeching in. Maybe more and more Dark Passenger as Dexter learns more and more of his father's past and that he didn't really know him as well as he thought.

I miss Doakes every day. But... sigh.

Maria could have easily gone the way of annoying and crappy character but they built her up and the actress!!! Fantastico. I love her.

I'm getting so excited for the new season! *squee*

I think you're right, he was one but now he's both at different times. I hope there isn't more to learn about Harry, though, because I'm not sure Dexter can keep taking the shocks.

Now that he's told his sister, though....

Maria is shaping up to be a very interesting character. She's smart but lets ambition and personal connections get in the way yet she seems to be an honest copy. And she's Latina and older, which is UNHEARD of these days. It makes me very proud *beams*

I agree with Nikki and Briton. As Dexter learns more about Harry, he loses his sheen as his idol and conscience. As he falls off his pedastel, he's toeing his way into the mud right next to Dexter, becoming more and more of an accomplice. The friend he thought he had in Miguel actually became a rival and threat, and as that happened, Harry started to take over that friend/accomplice role. It seems to parallel real life as a father becomes less your role model and you begin seeing him more as a real person whom you either move away from or become friends with.

The question is will Harry mirror Miguel and become another rival that challenges him and threatens to expose him? I think that may be where he's heading. He may have to expunge Harry in order to realize his full potential.

I think Miguel may have reinforced the notion that Dexter is a monster, er....to Dexter, not to us. Something about the way he said (in voice over) "a man is measured by the friends he makes" and he's watching the closest thing he had to a friend being carted off after he killed him. Ouch.

I wasn't sure about Harry, still not that sure, but I found some sweetness in the image of "Harry" teaching Dexter to knot a tie. That was nice, and normal.

I'm dying to see how Dex reacts to fatherhood.
