I don't usually do this

Compare vampires. Most of the times its like apples and oranges anyway - different takes on the vamp myth, different motivations. Different actors bringing their own groove.
But I have to admit, Angel and Spike were sallow in a hot way.
Whereas.....Bill, and even Eric, are just plain sallow. It might be the red undertones of their eyes, or the flourescent lighting in department stores (or maybe Eric's fugly track suits), but I don't feel that down low tickle when I'm watching True Blood that I used to feel watching AtS and BtVS.
Not that I'm not loving True Blood. I am. I'm watching the s2 reruns and waiting impatiently for s3. *bounces* And for some reason, Jessica reminds me a lot of Dawn.

Date: 2010-04-18 03:18 pm (UTC)Eric generally looks good to me as a pale vampire, especially in S1. Bill looks horrible with the pale skin it doesn't work for him at all.
That being said the scene in the department store, while utterly amusing for the fact that the clerk assumed Bill/Eric were gay, made both Bill/Eric look horrid and it probably was the florescent lights.

I did love that scene where the dept store clerk assumed they were gay. Nice shout out to slash, whether they meant to or not. :D

Date: 2010-04-20 09:14 pm (UTC)I think part of the thing with True Blood is that Alan Ball wants to make it very clear that these aren't humans. He wants to really exploit that divide between human and vampire in every way possible. I think that means making them more than just pale, you know?
I think it's like minorities. With most of them, you look at them, you can see they are non-white. I know Ball likes to play around with race issues sometimes. And I think this is his way of easily spotting the 'other' as it were.
