Since the smutty fluffy fic is being a bitch and making me work for every word, I'm offering this little ficlet as an apology for not finishing it yet.

It was a toss up as to who was dragging their ass more, the champion or the seer.
Angel leaned heavily on Cordelia’s door while she tried to get the key in the hole, succeeding on the third try. She stumbled ahead of him as Dennis turned on the overhead lights and the flood of light made her groan wearily.
“No, Dennis. Just the lamp. My eyes…”
Her voice was a good indication of how tired and aching she was, croaking and cracking with dryness.
Angel moved past her, dropping his broad axe on the floor, and collapsed onto her couch without shrugging out of his coat. She aimed her body next to his, and was greatly relieved that she managed not to plop into either his lap or the floor because she wasn’t sure she had the energy to move if she had.
Angel groaned when the couch gave under her weight and displaced his shoulder.
“Sorry.” She said in a voice he had to strain to hear.
“No problem.” He replied, staring at a spot on the far wall next to the TV.
Silence reined as Dennis floated a bottle of water over along with two aspirin.
Cordelia whimpered gratefully, taking the pills and gulping back the water.
“Slowly, Cordy, or you’ll get sick.”
She laughed painfully, her shoulder rubbing Angel’s arm. He let his head fall to the side, resting his cheek against the top of her head.
“Should have said that before I swallowed the gallon of sewer scum.” She whispered absently. He winced.
“Sorry about that.”
She moved her eyes, trying to look at him.
“Don’t be. You saved my life. Again.”
There was a beat of silence in which she could hear him smiling.
“Don’t be so smug. It took you a good hour to fight off those vamps.”
“I was a little off my game.”
Cordelia rolled her eyes, feeling exhaustion pull at her muscles and bones, coaxing her with the promise of dreams.
Dennis turned the television on, setting it on one of his favorite movies.
Daniel Day Lewis ran through the New World, searching for Cora.
“Oh, that’s one of my favorites, too.” Cordy mustered the words, the movement of her mouth and tongue feeling odd.
“It is?” Angel asked, his voice fading.
She closed her eyes.
“Mmm, yeah. The cave scene…how he promises to always find her, no matter what…” the world began to fall away, the feel of his head leaning on hers more solid than the couch beneath them. “The way they love each other.”
Silence carried her farther down, floating, floating….
“I’d do it.” He whispered, more than halfway unconscious. It took a couple seconds, but she roused herself enough to answer.
“Do what?” Her eyes drooped shut, her aching head fading into an echo.
He didn’t answer until she was balanced on the edge of deep slumber, and about to fall over.
“Find you.” He answered.
Sleep took her down, the feel of his body next to hers more of a shelter than she’d known since……
Dennis dragged in a blanket and covered the sleeping detectives, closing the curtain tight against the coming sunrise.
Cordelia and Angel slept on, skin to skin, dream to dream.

Sweet, sweet, sweet. I'm a sucker for sliding-into-sleep fics. Makes me nostalgic for the early days of C/A.
Rock on, girl!

Excellent, excellent work.

Date: 2007-09-17 12:48 am (UTC)I love the little moments between the big happenings. Falling asleep together after a fight, eating together or researching, those I think are the moments they fell in love. The real times.
