I just finished watching First Date, and I'm making this post so that if another few years go by before I watch a s7 episode of BtVS again, I'll have it to go back to. In case my C/A- occupied brain has no room to store the memory for long......
Spike and Buffy in s7? Loved each other. Passionately, completely, wholly. There might not have been any sex, but like Giles observed, there really didn't need to be. It wasn't about that - or not just about that. Spike was jealous of Wood, and Buffy felt a need to explain her date with him. And the scene where she goes to Spike after the fight, kneels down next to him, to assure herself that he's okay, to feel that connection when they look at each other, there's just no doubt. They lovelovelove each other.
On a side note, Wood realizes Spike's a vampire when he vamps out but not when he can't see him in his review mirror?? Oy.
